This is the IBM logo – the classic striped wordmark design created by Paul Rand in 1972.

The logo shows the letters “IBM” rendered in bold blue horizontal stripes rather than solid letterforms. Each letter is built from a series of evenly-spaced horizontal bars, giving the design a dynamic, almost pixelated or “scanned” appearance. The color used is IBM’s signature blue. A small registered trademark symbol (®) appears in the lower right corner, next to the “M.”

This striped version is one of the most recognizable corporate logos in the world and has remained largely unchanged for decades as part of IBM’s brand identity.

IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) is one of the world’s oldest and largest technology companies, headquartered in Armonk, New York.

Founded in 1911 as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company before being renamed IBM in 1924, the company has played a pivotal role in the history of computing, building early mainframe computers, developing punch-card tabulating systems used for decades in business and government, and contributing to the rise of personal computers in the 1980s with the IBM PC.

IBM is also known for major technological milestones, including Deep Blue, the first computer to defeat a reigning world chess champion in 1997, and Watson, the AI system that famously won on the game show “Jeopardy!” in 2011.

Today, IBM has transformed from a hardware-centric company into a major player in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, enterprise software, and business consulting, with key offerings including its Watson AI platform, IBM Consulting, mainframe systems like the IBM Z series, quantum computing research, and Red Hat’s open-source software, which IBM acquired in 2019.

The company also consistently ranks among the top holders of U.S. patents each year, reflecting its long-standing focus on innovation and research.
